Adolphe Sax was an instrument maker. In a time there were a lot of innovations and he invented some instruments that are still played now (he made a lot more that we forgotten and many of his contemporaries didn't have the chance to see one of their creations allowing us to know their name through the centuries).He invented the saxophones. This instrument is useless in symphonic orchestra but very present in the military bands and their heirs: jazz, street bands and concert bands.
Sax was born in November 1814 that's why I organize an event with my concert band to pay tribute: a conference - concert where the historical talk will be provided by Stanislas Janin (professor at the Nantes Conservatoire of music) and the musical setting by my concert band.
It's on Saturday in the hall Bretagne in Nantes, 14:30, 5€.
