Helvetica is 60 y.o.

There is ONE emblematic software for designers, it's Adobe Illustrator which is 30 years old this year.
There is ONE emblematic typography for designers, it's Helvetica, created by Max Miedinger 60 years ago. The goal was a typography with a perfect visual balance and we could say that's a success. Just take a look on how much this has been used over the time! We can see the emblematic Swiss neutrality!

To be fair, it was not a totally new creation. It's an evolution from a typography from 19th century. In fact, the name came after 3 years of commercialization!

It has been used for a lot of logotypes (Saab, Toyota, Orange, Tupperware...) but the story the most interesting is when Microsoft made Arial by copying Helvetica they thought too expensive. Copying but less good, if you have ever read a long texte written in Arial you know how it give you an headache. BUT the logo of Microsoft is in Helvetica!!
Since that it has been copied, and worst of all declined in some not glorious ways. When in the entire world the Helvetic Rounded respects the balance and the rightness of the original?
